Team Role and Teamwork Skill Are Not the Same
What you naturally gravitate toward is different from what a situation may require you to practise.

A team-role profile describes the kinds of contribution a person tends to prefer, such as generating possibilities, organizing work, connecting people, or checking detail. Teamwork skills are behaviors such as listening, sharing information, resolving disagreement, and following through.
Preference does not remove responsibility
Someone who prefers ideas still needs to close loops. Someone who prefers execution still needs to raise concerns. A role description can explain where energy comes easily, but it should not become permission to avoid necessary skills.
Use both lenses together
- Name the contribution you naturally notice first.
- Identify the teamwork behavior the current situation needs.
- Agree who owns gaps rather than assuming another “type” will cover them.
- Review outcomes and adjust roles as the work changes.
Neither a role profile nor a teamwork reflection should be used alone for hiring, promotion, capability judgments, or team exclusion.
